Plummers – A Brief History

35 High Street, a grade II listed building was originally built in 1760 as a private house. It was converted to shops during the 19th Century and up to 1916 traded as ‘Olliffes Tea Rooms’.

The building was sold in 1916 as part of the Auction of the Morant estate and bought by Mrs Lynes (the road behind the building leading to the Bickerley is named after the family) and was turned into a tobacconists and a sweet shop called ‘Bartletts’ and remained in the family until 1962 when it was sold and became Daisy Darling. Photographs showing the building in earlier times were found in the cellar during renovation and are on display in the hallway.

Original details still exist; the exposed brickwork and the beams behind the bar are original as is the green handmade glass at the bottom of the stairs. This was originally the back door to the house and the latch lock can still be seen on the left of the door. The function room has the original fireplace and strangely the cellar also has a small fireplace.

The small building in the garden used to be stables and the end of the garden led directly to the Bickerley.

All the lights and water features are provided by Design Interiors at 37 High Street, Ringwood.
